Clarification on when to use Sick Time
There
seems to be a difference in understanding where applying sick-time is
concerned. Here are areas for clarification:
- If an employee calls out sick and has available
sick-time to cover that time – is this just to guarantee that the employee
is paid for the time or does it excuse any points that might have been
applied as well? I would assume that it is a benefit and when used
responsibly, should not be penalized.
- If there is a call-out, for being sick and you do not
have sick-time, you have a point/points applied for attendance.
- If you have an emergency medical issue, do not have
sick-time, but can provide valid medical documentation, are the points are
waived? Currently I am approving them as being waived (we had someone
require emergency surgery).
- Make up time for being ill. I do not know if this is
across all campaigns, however I know that it is within Hulu. In scenario
one, I do not believe that an employee should be required to make up the
time (they can be asked), as they have the time to cover. In scenario 2,
your time should be required to be made up, as you do not have the time to
cover the call-out.
It
is not stated in the handbook that points are assessed, however, that seems to
be the belief that you still incur points for calling out sick and having
available sick-time.
